Here’s how it works:

Preparing for your application: You’ll need measurements, photos, and a design that incorporates the rebate requirements:

  • 3 native or drought tolerant plants per 100 square feet of area transformed

  • A stormwater retention feature (there are several sustainable landscaping approaches)

  • Permeable hardscaping

  • Replacement or modification of overhead spray sprinklers with a more water-efficient irrigation system

Getting familiar with California native and drought tolerant landscapes: There’s an exciting and sometimes overwhelming new world of plants and landscape features beyond a boring lawn. Check out our resource page to explore the many possibilities for your garden transformation. We also offer many installation services in addition to plants that can enhance your landscape.

Apply for rebate: Fill out the rebate application to begin your application and transformation process. Before you begin your project or remove any grass, you must receive pre-approval for your reservation of available funds. Once your application is pre-approved, you will have 180 days to complete the project and submit your request for the reserved rebate amount.

Ready for installation: With the pre-approved application, we can break ground. Phase 1 is the turf removal and phase 2 is the garden installation.

Final submission: Submit photos and information of the finished project to complete the rebate approval and get paid.
